  2. I personally am not opposed to fluoride, per se. I am opposed to water fluoridation. Here's a couple of reasons why.

    1) I believe water is a shared resource and that clean water is a Human Right. We have already reached "peak water". (Google it) We are dumping poisons into the water supply at increasing rates. If we had any sense at all, we'd be putting four times as much effort into taking them OUT, not arguing about which ones to add to the mix. (Read up on the effects of fluoride on breeding trout and salmon, for starters, as well.)

    2) (This is where I'll be summarily dismissed as a "conspiracy theory kook".) Fluoridation research is hazy. The government agencies appear to all point back to each other when they say fluoride is "safe". Sodium Fluoride is bug powder, pure and simple. Only those who believed RAID and Mon$anto's party lines would argue about an acceptable level of bug powder. ("RAID: Safe for pets and children, kills bugs DEAD." and "Without chemicals, life itself would be impossible.".) You would have to be soundly sleeping not to understand that corporate interests took over the government agencies charged to protect us. There is a huge body of evidence saying that fluoride is anything but the safe, effective chemical it's touted to be.

    3) Even if one were to suspend belief and believe that fluoride is useful in fighting tooth decay (Cavity rates are falling evenly in areas that DO and DO NOT fluoridate.) the alleged benefits are from TOPICAL USE. (You put it ON you, you don't put it IN you.) Recent reports are readily available which detail the amounts of fluoride added or present in packaged food and drink. Do we really need it in the water, too? What's wrong with getting toothpaste/rinse/dental care to those who can't afford it? If that's socialism, what is mass-medication?

    4) It's a matter of individual liberty. Nobody has the right to force anybody to take medicine that they don't want to take. (Parents and other caregivers are another matter.) See #1 above. Access to pure, clean drinking water is a Human Right.

That's my two cents. I have another dime or so but my screed is already too lengthy.

    1. Thanks Tim! I think your point of view is soundly explained here. I think there will be more people visiting this page and yours is the first comment they will see.

Thank you for sharing your viewpoint on this important topic.

  3. I have been forcefully medicated with sodium fluoridated water for most of my life. Most will claim that it is an added form of oral care for healthy teeth. Dentists use sodium fluoride products on our teeth and it's indoctrinated into people that it is the only effective way to prevent cavities. Others will claim that it is toxic poison that is used to dumb the masses and provide waste disposal for fertilizer and aluminum manufacturing. Parents are instructed not to use tap water in baby formula because of adverse effects. That in itself should pose the question that maybe it shouldn't be added to public water. The idea is that somehow we should all be forced to partake by adding it to the public water supply. I do not agree with this idea. There needs to be an alternative option for every individual, rich and poor. Keeping the water clean should be the only responsibility of public water systems. Free or discounted dental hygiene products for low and no income families would be my preferred method of oral care for the masses, not adding a debatable chemical to the public water supply. I do not want sodium fluoride added to my water and in turn I have to buy RO/filtered water from the store as most conventional home filters do nothing to remove the chemical element. It would be interesting and democratic to see a localized vote on the issue instead of just being grandfathered into it. There is more information that is easily available to the public now, and it may swing people in the direction of removing it from already fluoridated water systems.

    Hi David,

For me, Fluoride is not something I want in my water, or my toothpaste, or sprayed on my vegetables. Harvard provided a recent study result to warn about Fluoride being related to cancer and symptoms of tooth enamel damage. It is easy to imagine a level of Fluoride above the target level of 1 ppm with a combination hit from water addition, tooth paste, and vegetable farm use. Even the German and Russia concentration camp target was only 2-3 ppm for sedation and control.

Water needs to be totally clean and free from problem chemicals. It can never be used to medically treat a population because not ALL members of the population need the same medicine. If the topical Fluoride use was actually useful, the age on the population to benefit would be only from perhaps the start of adult tooth eruption to the end. Those years just happen to be the years that we don't want the neurological effects to hinder a young person from starting their understanding of life. We also don't want to affect bone growth negatively. All other age groups either younger or older would have only a fear of Fluoride in the water or the toothpaste or the food vegetables.

I saw baby sections of Wal-Mart selling gallons of Infant Fluoride water at amazing levels listed on the contents. No one thinks a baby should be taking Fluoride for their baby teeth. Every one realizes that is a dangerous food for babies except Wal-Mart.

I'm trying to get smarter or at least stay smart. Fluoride is a danger to that goal.

    1. Hi Dr. Holden, Thank you for weighing in on this topic. You bring some very rational and logical points. I have seen those fluoride water bottles on the Wal-Mart shelf too. I never looked at the concentration. It does sound a bit alarming from the perspective you bring. thanks for your comment.

    1. This isn't a reply, I wanted to add to my comment. I'm almost certain we're the only country in the world that still allows fluoride to be added to our drinking water.

  7. some other countries still do, for example. The city of Hamilton in New Zealand just voted to remove it. There are still some other places that use it NZ and other countries too. But many countries also don't allow it.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. One question I have: Does fluoride enter the bloodstream when used as a toothpaste or a mouthwash?
