What Is Reverse Osmosis Or RO About?

http://blog.toothygrinsstore.com/2014/06/the-power-of-inexpensive-alkaline-water.htmlWhat is RO (Reverse Osmosis) - It's basically nothing more than using pressure to force water (or any other "solvent") through a membrane.  It effectively blocks larger particles from getting through so you could theoretically end up with clean and pure water.

In a nutshell, that's all it really is.   One really cool application of this concept is taking the salt out of sea water to make drinking water.   No need to go thirsty...

From another angle though, some people talk about alkaline water.   As far as I know RO doesn't do anything to alkalize the water

Alkaline water is just referring to a higher position on the pH scale (more OH ions than free H ions - when you put them together you get H2O.)

So if you have more OH ions floating about and less H ions, the water is higher on the pH scale or basic.   Lower on the scale is acid.

So, therefore many people talk about the power of alkaline water and its alleged application to our health.

I don't get too much into that discussion.  That's because either you believe alkaline water is healthy or you believe it has no effect.   So, one's mind is already made up!

Anyway, RO and alkaline water are different concepts with different meanings.  I'm not aware of any inherent connection between them.
