How I Avoided A Scaling and Root Planing Treatment

I Was Able To Avoid A Scaling And Root Planing Treatment With the Help Of The HydroFloss Oral Irrigator

If you have been told by your dentist or hygienist that you need a Scaling and Root Planing Treatment  (SRP) or a 'Deep Cleaning' then you may relate to a few emotions that I myself have felt.

1.  Scared  - What the heck?  That sounds awful.  You want to do what to my gums?  When I heard the description of what they wanted to do, I was a bit frightened.

2.  Disbelief - How Did this problem happen to me?   Why didn't anyone warn me?  Surely, someone could have told me what to do to prevent this.  How did it get so bad so fast?   Or, has it been this way and they are just telling me now when it is time for an expensive treatment?

3. Desperation:  I didn't like the sound of what they want to do.    What can I do to save my gums and avoid this crazy sounding procedure that also happens to be expensive?

This is how my journey began.   I had periodontal pocketing in the 4, 5 and even 6 mm range.   I had to figure out what that meant in the first place, along my path to finding a solution.

I tried many things.  I tried oil pulling.  I tried essential oils.  I tried various mouthwashes and toothpastes.  I flossed a lot!

But every time I went back, the dentist told me that I need to get that Scaling and Root Planing treatment right away.

Finally, I tried one last thing.   And it WORKED.

This is what I tried:

I used it far more than I needed to, I later realized.   But it worked!  And I was so happy to hear the dentist in disbelief:  "Whatever you are doing, keep it up and you DON'T need that treatment any more.

She didn't ask me what I had done, which seemed rather strange to me.   Wouldn't she want her other patients to know?

Anyway,  if anyone is facing this problem, the key is to shrink those periodontal pockets down.   3mm or less is generally considered healthy gums by most dental professionals.   But above 3 is usually considered the opposite.

So that is a little secret that your dentist or hygienist probably didn't tell you.  I don't know why,  but it seems to me knowledge is power.   Withholding knowledge is a little like control, isn't it?

I cannot guarantee that what I did will work for you.   But it did work for me and it appears that it has worked for others over the years too.

It just wouldn't be fair of no one told you to try this first, right?    So that's why I'm writing this.

Always be under the care of a dental professional.  The best one for gum health and disease is a periodontist.

Stay healthy and well.
