Are You A Believer?
That's what all this hub bub really comes down to. Do you believe alkaline water is healthier than tap water, spring water, distilled water, etc?
It's a multi faceted question really. There are so many things to think about.
There are people who say things like:
1. The molecular structure of water has changed.
2. Most water that you test is acidic.
3. Alkaline water is better for you.
4. You should drink a lot of water - This makes one wonder if you should be drinking more alkaline water or is tap water good enough?
I'm not even going to attempt to answer these questions here. I'll tell you why:
No matter what I say, you probably have an opinion on this topic already.
Expensive Machines...
Everyone has heard of those expensive alkaline water making machines. No doubt that the expense of some of these fuels the above debate(s).
Some of those machines are over $4,000. You really have to question that.
This is why portable alkaline water bottles or makers have become popular. You can see one here.
The cost is much, much lower. I would even say far more reasonable.

pH Balance
A lot of the debate comes down to the question of pH and how it relates to the human body. Some natural healers will say that an acidic body is a sick body.
One of their goals is to balance the body's pH in order to make it healthier. Some claim all kinds of illnesses result from a body that is acidic rather than alkaline.
You can be sure there is plenty of room for argument. You will definitely have doctors on both sides of the debate as well as scientists.
It's like the debate about fluoride in drinking water. There are experts and professionals lined up to argue both sides.
That leaves the rest of us in a bit of a bind. We are stuck with the decision to do our own research and draw our own conclusions or we must close our eyes and pick one side or the other.
That's why I started this article out with the question: Are you a believer? No matter which side you are on, it comes down to belief. I say that because if there was a definitive answer there wouldn't be the need for such debate in the first place, would there?
Portable Bottles
The advantages to the portable makers are:
1. Far less expensive than those costly machines.
2. Take it with you and have the ability to get alkaline water on the go
3. See number 2 above - it's worth reading twice.
In the end, it comes down to what you want and what you believe.

Hi David! Good blog post you wrote. I haven't given the pH balance of water that much thought. As long as it's okay to drink it, it was good enough for me. Your post made me think about this a bit more. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Muriel, thanks for stopping by. Under 'normal' circumstances, water should be around pH 7 naturally. But most of today's drinking water isn't! It is something to think about.
