HIV and Hepatits Testing For Oklahoma Oral Surgeon's Patients - Video Commentary

I really hope the patients turn out to be ok.  It sounds as though the office staff used improper sterilization techniques and reused drug bottles.   They even had a separate set of instruments for 'high risk' patients.

These instruments turned out to be rusty.  Protocol dictates that rusty instruments cannot be properly sterilized no matter what procedure is used.

This 'shortcuts' may have been used to save money or it may be that the staff really didn't know what they were doing.  The surgeon himself, when questioned by the board, stated that he left sterilization procedures up to his staff.

Some staff members were not qualified to administer sedation IVs but were doing so anyway.

I hope everyone will check out ok.

Experts say that cases such as this one are rare.  But, can we ever be 100% sure?  There are no guarantees in life.

Sincerely,
