They were mentioning that in the 18-34 year old age group - only about 41% that had periodontal disease realized it. In higher age groups that number fell to as low as 26% of the people! Wow!
Estimates of how many people have gum disease vary. But many dental professionals in the US will tell you that about 75% of people have at least some gum disease right now.
Being the number one cause of tooth loss as well as the low awareness of this problem makes this a rather serious disease. Yet, it is a silent one.
If you are interested in keeping your teeth for a lifetime or protecting those of your family members, perhaps it would be a good idea to read a book that explains everything in simple terms. I believe that part of the problem is that people just don't 'get it'. Nor do they realize just how big a threat this is to them.
I wrote the book: What You Should Know About Gum Disease : A Layman's Guide to Fighting Gum Disease - to help people understand what it is and what they might be able to do about it. I think, given the circumstances, every family should have a copy of this book.
Therefore, when you get your copy, get enough copies to give out to everyone you know. :)
I hope the article at the medical express website will help people figure this out. But sadly enough, I know that many people, doctors included have tried to stress this problem to the public for a long time. The results have been dismal so far.
Are you ready to listen?
Sincerely,
David Snape
