My Experience Cancelling An Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription

Cancelling My Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription Took A While and Incurred A Cancellation Fee

Update:  Unbelievable, I just got a call from Adobe on my subscription.  They claim that my monthly subscription is actually a yearly one and claim that I need to pay them for the rest of the year that I didn't use.   September 5th 2013

Wow, what an experience with Adobe.  I've had a dream weaver single app creative cloud subscription for over 2 years now.   I hardly use it and it Sshows up as a $20 + charge every month on my credit card.

I thought I would cancel it.

First I had to login to my adobe account.  No place to cancel there.   Then I logged into my cloud account.  I couldn't find a place to cancel there either.  (found out later there is no way to do it, except to call customer support).

Next, I called customer support.   I got an automated system that had no prompt for cancellation whatsoever.

I took my best guest and chose support for 'digital something or other... '

Then,  there was no live agent and apparently, they don't intend to send you to one.

Instead, I had to input my phone number and the automated voice told me I would need to wait 4-6 minutes for a return call.

Received said call (not sure how long the wait was, not overly long).

The automated system told me that when "my name" is on the phone, please press "1".    I pressed "1".   Waited for an agent to come on the line.

The agent had an Indian accent.   It took over 20 minutes from that point to cancel my subscription.   I was asked some pretty irrelevant questions such as, "Could you check your bill to see if you have been charged 20.64 for your subscription".

After all that, I was told there would be a 4.75 cent cancellation fee!

That was my experience cancelling an adobe creative cloud subscription that persisted for over 2 years.

You cannot, apparently at this time, cancel any other way than by telephone.  You can see that it was difficult to do so.

I won't speculate on whether this level of difficulty was intentional or not.  You can decide for yourself.

I will definitely think twice about getting another creative cloud subscription.

Any thoughts?

    1. Hi Tom, thank you for sharing this. I had no idea about this petition. I bet there will be others who read this page that have not heard about it either.

    2. I signed the Change.org petition. I don't use any of their products, but they have ensured that I never will.

    3. What was most shocking to me was the silly questions ~I was being asked and the cancellation fee. I see no reason for either. I was on that subscription for over 2 years.

  3. Hello - warning - I work for Adobe - just so you know. I'm a bit curious. You said you've been a CC member for 2 years. How is that possible since CC has only been available for a few months?

As for the cancellation fees, the prices quoted are for a yearly commitment and the fee is mentioned at signup.

    1. It may have been longer than 2 years, Raymond. I have been paying a monthly subscription for at least that long. Perhaps you had me on a monthly before converting me to the cloud.

If so, that would explain why I was never told of any cancellation fee. Oh, I'm sure it is in the fine print somewhere. No doubt...

    2. Raymond, are you on the damage control team? I mean, corporate employees don't typically go out and do what you are doing unless told to do so. So, are you payed to go out and comment on situations like these that are on the Internet?

I'm just curious. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

    3. Please correct me if I'm wrong? on the other hand, maybe you are here to offer me a few years free of the entire adobe suite? that would be cool. :)

    4. Errr, not sure why you needed to traceroute me - I said I work for Adobe. :) I'm not part of the damage control team, I'm on the evangelists team. I honestly have no idea what plan you were on if you were paying monthly as we've previously had a suite you would buy one time. The shift to monthly was with CC afaik. Maybe I'm wrong.

    5. Here are the transactions: (with tranaction IDs removed) as you can see you have been billing me monthly for over two years.

  4. Adobe seems to think it is ok to put some barriers in the way of those who wish to unsubscribe.

I explained to Ray in a separate chat that it really is not acceptable to waste my time like that. I feel that Adobe should compensate me for the hour or so it took me to get this taken care of.

I'm asking adobe (publicly here) for a min of $50 for my time. That's a bit generous of me because many people bill their time for $300 an hour or more.
