I suppose it depends on who you are married to!

Certainly, we ARE social creatures and it makes sense that having a support network is going to make a difference.

There are possibly a number of reasons for this.  My guess is that it is a combination of one or more of the following plus others that I haven't thought of.   You can contribute to this list in the comment sections.

1.  Someone to talk to!   Talking is a stress release for a lot of people.  I know, I have one relative that relies on it almost exclusively!

Just airing your fears and concerns to someone you trust can have a major impact.

2.  Someone is there to take care of you.   You might not feel like doing a whole lot, other than rest, after a heart attack.   And I would argue it might be good to spend a good deal of time taking it easy for a while.  Maybe even many months.

If there is someone there to help take care of you and reduce the amount of effort you have to exert on a regular basis, it could be a boost to your healing.  This could be particularly true in the beginning when your body needs the most help and support.

3. You have someone or others to worry about than just yourself.    If you were sitting there all alone, it might be difficult for to not focus on your problems.  This could have the effect of shifting your mind to a more negative state.  Arguably, this is not good for the health of your body.

When you are involved in the lives of others - talking to them, listening to them and sharing in their joys and sorrows, it's probably going to take your mind off your own issues.   This involvement could help you to find more reasons to 'keep on keeping on'.  I would argue that can help you recover as well.

Onward to prevention.

A lot of researchers have found or think they have found a link to a lot of health problems and gum disease.   Heart disease is one of those.

Keeping your gums healthy, could, if the researchers are correct, make a difference in the health of the rest of your body.

One of the best tools I know of that you can use between your regular dentist office visits is the HydroFloss

There are so many factors that have the potential to improve our health and quality of our lives.

There is a meditation practice that focuses on Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.    Maybe tranquil meditation can help a heart to relax?
