Alternative To Scaling and Root Planing Treatment

scaling and root planing alternative
*Please be advised that you should be under the care and advice of your physician at all times.  If you don't agree or have a question mark about what your dental professional is telling you, you might consider going to visit another dentist for a second, third and even fourth opinion.

I'm going to tell you about how I was able to avoid a Scaling and Root Planing Treatment.  (SRP)  I was cleared by the same dentist who told me I HAD to get that treatment previously.

Saving Money

These  SRPs, in the United States, can be quite expensive.  From what I can tell $1500 for the whole mouth is the average.  Some areas of the country are much higher.

In addition, these treatments often need to be redone in 1 to 3 years.

More advanced (and more expensive)  treatments may also have a temporary benefit, but the problem  may return later.

What Is My Story

I was told that I needed one of these Scaling and Root Planing Treatments.   I was told it was the only thing that could help me.

I tried a few things on my own to see if I could make a difference.  But on every visit, they told me there was still a problem.

Then,  I tried the Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator  .   When I went back, the dentist and the hygienist both had apparent expressions of disbelief.   After looking in my mouth for quite some time, the dentist said, "Whatever you are doing, keep it up.  You don't need that treatment any longer".

Of course, I was quite happy to hear that.   For around $100, I was able to avoid a treatment that often costs around $1500!

Knowing how to keep my gums healthy has probably saved me a lot more money over time!

* I can only tell you my experience.   There is no guarantee that anything can work for 100% of the people 100% of the time.  You should always be under the care of your dentist or periodontist.  They can monitor your progress or lack thereof.

Here is how you can tell if it is working for you.

From your dentist, find out what your current periodontal pockets are.   Generally speaking, most dental professionals will consider your gums unhealthy if your depths are above 3mm.

Conversely, they generally consider your gums healthy when they are all below 3mm.

So, you simply use your hydro floss the right way (in addition to your regular brushing and flossing) for about a month and then go back to your dentist and have those pockets measured again.   Then you will know if you are improving or if you made it all the way, or if it is not working for you.

Simple and easy.

Scaling And Root Planing Costs In Kentucky

I just talked to a potential Hydro Floss user from Kentucky.   She mentioned that her husband had just been through a SRP  (Scaling And Root Planing) treatment.

I asked her about the costs.

$730 was out of pocket.   The insurance picked up 60% of the total cost.

She quickly calculated that the total expense was about $1530.

This is inline with what I vaguely remember reading in the past.   That the average cost for a full mouth SRP was right around $1600.    The costs could be expected to be slightly lower in Kentucky.

So, these numbers make complete sense.

-----

We talked about the Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator and periodontal pocket depths.    I've personally experienced a reduction in those periodontal pocket depths from using the HF and I have talked to many others about it too.

I'll be more than happy to have a no obligation discussion.  Not about sales, just conversation.  The purpose would be to help you find out if the Hydro Floss is something that would be useful to you or not.

Deep Cleaning or Scaling And Root Planing Costs

Costs Seem To Vary Greatly

There seems to be a lot of variation on the costs of Scaling and Root Planing Treatments across the nation and even across towns.   One article I read put the cost at around $250 per quadrant - which would be $1000 for the whole mouth (four quadrants).

I've also heard $1600 for the whole mouth and even more.   So, there seems to be a great deal of variation.   I've seen much higher and much lower.   It might pay to shop around.

My Experience

My own experience is one where I actually avoided the cost of this treatment.   That's because I was able to shrink my periodontal pocket depths and get my gums to a healthy state again.

At the time I was told that the ONLY thing that would help me was this treatment.  That is what my dentist, at that time, said to me.   In fact, I was told that if I refused the treatment, they would not be responsible if I lost my teeth.

I was pretty sure that things were not as dramatic as that.  But, I was aware that there was a problem to be solved.  The hygienist mentioned to me that once I had that treatment, every subsequent cleaning would need to be 'special'.

I didn't like the sound of any of this.  So, I set out to see what I could do.

After my success, I wrote the book:  What You Should Know About Gum Disease, A Layman's Guide To Fighting Gum Disease.   I have always had the wish that more people could get the information and knowledge that are in this book.

General Terms Only

I do feel obligated to say that what I have said on this page is in general terms only.  For specific questions about your own unique dental health situation, you should direct those questions to your doctor or periodontist.

Having said that.  Here is the primary tool that helped me make my gums healthy again.   It worked so well that the dentist and hygienist were shocked by my progress.  The dentist said: "Whatever you are doing keep it up.  You don't need that treatment now."

This story had a happy ending!
