Once upon a time my dentist and hygienist were really pushing me hard to have a Root Scaling and Planing done.
I did a little self initiated research on that and decided that it might not be the best thing in the world to have done. Here are several reasons:
1. you will likely need it again in 1 to 3 years.
2. I saw a footnote in some research noting that it was quite common for gum recession to occur due to SRP treatments (Scaling and Root Planing)
3. They are expensive. A SRP for the whole mouth might average about $1500 in the midwest of the United States. The coasts can get significantly more expensive.
Did I mention that you may have to have one again in 1 to 3 years?
I was desperately searching for another answer because I did not like any of the three points mentioned above.
To make matters worse, my dentist said that the SRP was the only thing that would help me.
I was confused and distressed as well.
I tried many things, but nothing really worked.
It made my gums healthy again. All the other things I tried did not impress the dentist. But the HydroFloss was what made everything healthy to the point that the dentist admitted that I did not need the SRP treatment any longer.
