Ötzi The Iceman Could Have Used a Dentist - He Had Gum Disease Too

I read an article from Science NBC News     ---  (Article was pointed out to me by one Ekhym Wethered of Overland Park, KS - Thanks Ekhym!)

Looks like our 5,000 year old well preserved ice man lived a decent life (until he was shot with an arrow that is) but had some bad dental problems.

One item in particular that piqued my interest was that Ötzi had gum disease.   The article went on to mention that Ötzi probably would have lost some teeth within the next five years - had he continued living.

Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss.  Although Ötzi can also attribute his problems to a milled grain diet (such as worn teeth). It is common knowledge today that gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss.

Some people lose one or more teeth get implants or dentures and somehow missed the whole point that their tooth loss was due to gum disease!  They still don't know it.

Too bad they didn't visit Toothy Grins Store because we talk about this topic a lot.   Of course, back in Ötzi's day Toothy Grins Store didn't exist.  But fortunately for modern man, it does!

Don't suffer the same fate as our neolithic ice man!  Make and keep your gums healthy!
